Learning to sew should have its rewards. It should also be all kinds of fun. Beginning Sewing 101 is taught by popular Montavilla instructor, Bobbe Adkins. She’ll teach you some of the important basics -- like using sewing notions, types of needles, threads and fabrics. You’ll also learn how machines work, how to read and cut patterns and more. At the end of this fin class, you’ll have made an apron to take home with you.

This class is for adults who want to advance their sewing skills. The class will include how to read and layout and cut a pattern on fabric. Setting in a collar, sleeves, and pockets will be part of learning. By the end of the class you will have a cozy robe sewn. _________________________________

Beginning Sewing w/ Knit Fabrics

Nancy is a Kwik Sew Educator This class is an introduction to knit fabrics and pattern drafting. The first project will be a T-shirt. From there neckline variations and seaming techniques will be introduced. If you have always wanted to sew with knits, this is the class for you! Bring your serger and/or sewing machine. Prerequisite: Basic sewing skills and know how to use your serger. A supply list will be emailed to you one week prior to class.

These two hours are for those who might have some questions on their Babylock or Janome machines. PJ is knowledgeable and skilled on the various machines and is here to help answer any questions you might have.

Beginning Teen Sewing

This class is for teens that would like to learn the basic sewing skills to construct a garment. Maybe even become a Fashion Designer. Fabric selection, notions and sewing terms will be discussed. Nancy will take you through the process of sewing your own garment. The pattern used is designed especially for teen girls. Sign up with a friend to have fun and learn a lifelong skill. A supply list will be emailed to you one week prior the class.

Adult Beginning Sewing

In this four-session sewing class, you will learn basic sewing skills: sewing straight and curved seams, purchasing notions, reading a pattern, learning about fabrics, doing step-by-step pattern layout and cutting. We will go through the whole process of constructing a garment. Nancy will contact each student to discuss additional supplies. Prerequisite: You must be able to thread the machine and wind a bobbin properly.

Projects and designs from the Janome machine club are also offerd. Come learn at your own speed and pace and attend as many workshop times as you need to complete your project.

Beginning Quilting w/ N. Bishop

Sign up for this class and join in the quilting excitement. In this class you will learn skills and techniques to put together a 4-block wall hanging. You will learn free motion embroidery and different ways to "quilt" your project. We will go over rotary cutting, piecing, constructing 1/4" seams, proper pressing procedures, making bias bindings and sewing mitered corners as well as other related quilting methods. We will use Alex Anderson's "Start Quilting" as a reference for the class. Nancy will contact each student prior to class.
