Beginning Sewing 1 w/ Nancy

In this four-session sewing class, you will learn basic sewing skills: sewing straight and curved seams, purchasing notions, reading a pattern, learning about fabrics, doing step-by-step pattern layout and cutting. We will go through the whole process of constructing a garment. Nancy will contact each student to discuss additional supplies. Prerequisite: You must be able to thread the machine and wind a bobbin properly.

Beginning Quilting 4 Block Sampler Quilt 102

Learn how to quilt by making a sampler wall hanging. There will be 2 4 -week sessions that will teach you the basics of quilting, from fabric and color selection, through techniques for piecing, to the final stages of assembly and binding. You may sign up for one or both sessions.
Quilting 101 will cover the basics. You will learn a new skill with each of the 4 blocks: how to measure and cut, how to piece (sew together), and how to prepare blocks for final assembly.
Quilting 102 will take you through the assembly process - adding sashing and borders, putting together the quilt sandwich, basting and quilting by hand or on your home sewing machine, and aing the finishing touches of hanging sleeve, binding and creating a label.
Each class is 2 hours and will meet on Fridays at 2:30pm starting April 12, 2013 for a total of 8 weeks. Class fee is $80 or $150 for both sessions. There is a $10 materials fee payable to the instructor. To register for both sessions, please call the store to get the discounted rate.

Quilt Binding Workshop

Beginning Quilting w/ Myrtle Eddens

Sign up for this class and join in the quilting excitement. In this class you will learn skills and techniques to put together a 4-block wall hanging. You will learn free motion embroidery and different ways to "quilt" your project. We will go over rotary cutting, piecing, constructing 1/4" seams, proper pressing procedures, making bias bindings and sewing mitered corners as well as other related quilting methods. We will use Alex Anderson's "Start Quilting" as a reference for the class. Myrtle will contact each student prior to class.

Grandmothers Flower Garden Quilt

3 – 2 1/2 hour session
Use fast and easy non-traditional methods to create this classic quilt with raw-edge appliqué. The blocks are created "in the hoop" with the raw-edge appliqué and quilting all done in a few easy steps. Best of all, your embroidery machine does most of the work for you. The blocks, sashing and binding are all easy cuts made with a rotary cutter, ruler and mat. The hexagon shapes are die cut. No hand cutting, hand piecing or hand stitching.

Beginning Paper Piecing

Learn to paper piece by doing an easy block that you will find so easy and loads of fun. This first class will introduce you to the basics of Paper Piecing with an overview of its history and techniques. You will practice on a simple but fun block and I will guide you step by step through the entire pattern and at the end you will be able to look at and understand any paper piecing pattern and then take the next step and tackle a more complex designs and patterns. Come and have some fun and learn another quilting technique!
