Quilting Technique Toolbox: Easy Strip-Pieced 9-patch Blocks
In the good 'ole days, quilt blocks were often made from individual pieces painstakingly marked with cardboard templates and then carefully cut with scissors. Rotary cutters and rulers sped up the cutting process and made it more accurate but even with rotary cutters, cutting up all the little squares that go into making a 9-Patch block is still labor intensive. The answer is strip-piecing. Strip piecing makes assembling certain blocks fast and easy IF (and this is a big 'if') you cut and sew accurately. In this session, I will take you through the steps of accurate cutting and show you how to make and check for a precise ¼" seam. You will see how quickly you can throw together lots of 9-Patch blocks and, as a bonus; I will show you a fast and true way to make strip pieced 9-Patch blocks from suitably sized scraps.
