Quilting Technique Toolbox: Partial Seam Construction
Led by Helene Knott
Quilting Technique Toolbox Classes are a series of 3-hour monthly classes devoted to exploring special techniques that will enrich your quilting resources when making future quilts. Each technique will be presented as a practice block, students can choose to make a larger project from the technique blocks or simply make a 'practice block' to learn the technique. Each class stands alone, there is no requirement to take them all, students can pick and choose the techniques they are interested in learning. Each class will be suitable for beginners but even more advanced quilters may find valuable methods that they have not yet tried. The project lesson will change month to month.
Partial Seam Construction: There are a number of traditional quilt block patterns that rely on a partial seam construction method to sew them without extraneous seams that add bulk or interrupt the flow of a fabric print. In some contemporary quilt designs and layout, you might encounter the same situation where you need to employ partial seams to sew the design efficiently. Constructing these seams may seem confusing and intimidating but they are really quite simple once you grasp the concept and figure out the necessary sequencing. In this session, I will show you how to construct partial seams using a simple 'trellis' style block to practice on.
