Beginning Sewing for Kids 8-10 w/ Lorena

This fun class covers the basics of beginning sewing. You will learn how to operate your sewing machine, safely use an iron, how to read a commercial pattern, follow a cutting layout, basic sewing techniques, and complete a sample for a basic seam and seam finish. You will incorporate these skills into your final Travel Pillow Project.

  • Session 1: Pattern, fabric, and notions. Ironing safety. Operating your machine. Practice straight stitching. Seam and seam finish sample.
  • Session 2: Layout, cutting and marking demonstration. Cut out pillow pattern and mark.
  • Session 3: Begin pillow project.
  • Session 4: Finish pillow project.

What is NOT covered by Class Fee: Commercial pattern, fabric, notions for pillow project along with sewing tools. Please click below for the supply list.

Lorena is a retired Family & Consumer Education Teacher/Career & Technical Educator with over 40 years of teaching experience, having taught Preschool, Junior High and High School in the Portland area.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Class, club, and event fees are nonrefundable. You must cancel 72 hours before the first session of the class, club, or event to receive store credit or apply the fee to another class, club or event. However, if the instructor or Montavilla Sewing Centers has to cancel a class, club, or event, you have the option for a store credit or full refund. Students must bring their own machines to all classes, unless otherwise noted. We request that you do not bring children or guests to the classes. Thank you!
