Tailored Shirt Class
In this class, consisting of two 6-hour sessions with instructor Lyn Davis, students will construct a shirt incorporating professional techniques including flat-felled seams, two-piece collar with collar stand, front placket, pockets, back yoke, sleeve with cuffs and placket, buttonhole and button placement.
Students should have basic sewing skills and knowledge: know how to read a pattern and understand typical pattern terms and markings, experience with sewing-pattern layout and cutting, pressing techniques, be comfortable using their sewing machine including threading, bobbin winding, adjusting stitch length and tension, making buttonholes.
Lyn Davis studied Basic Garment Construction, Fashion Design and Pattern Making, Shirt Tailoring, Suit Tailoring, Couture Methods, and Color Theory in high school. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Secondary Education and taught English in middle and high schools in Colorado. She began sewing professionally at fifteen years old and has continued to develop her sewing and tailoring skills her entire adult life.
Supply List
Project Supplies:
- Purchased shirt pattern
- Woven shirt weight fabric (cotton shirting, light to mid-weight cottons, quilting cottons) pre-washed and ironed ready for use
- Light weight fusible interfacing
- Buttons as indicated on pattern
- All purpose thread to match selected fabric
Sewing Tools:
- Sewing machine with manual and attachments
- Sewing/Fabric sheers
- Seam ripper
- Pressing cloth
- Tape measure
- Pins in pin cushion or holder
- Chalk or temporary fabric pen or pencil

Cancellation & Refund Policy
Class, club, and event fees are nonrefundable. You must cancel 72 hours before the first session of the class, club, or event to receive store credit or apply the fee to another class, club or event. However, if the instructor or Montavilla Sewing Centers has to cancel a class, club, or event, you have the option for a store credit or full refund. Students must bring their own machines to all classes, unless otherwise noted. We request that you do not bring children or guests to the classes. Thank you!
