Learn to sew another simple project
This 4-session course of 3 hours each class is taught by Certified Palmer & Pletsch Sewing Instructor, Jayne Vetter. Jayne is a licensed Family & Consumer Science/Career & Technical Educator and has taught High School Textile & Design classes for over 30 years in the Portland area.
This class builds on the fundamentals of beginning sewing 1. Learn more basics of sewing while making and completing a simple project of your choice. In this fun class, you will learn several sewing techniques that you will find yourself using over and over on future sewing projects. Review how to read a pattern, follow a cutting layout, basic sewing techniques, complete sewing technique samples that include a facing, gathers, dart and pleats using woven fabrics. By the end of the class, you’ll have incorporated one or more of these techniques into your chosen finished project!
- Session 1: Review, Pattern & Fabric, Facing Sample
- Session 2: Dart/Pleat Sample, Cutting Layout
- Session 3: Baste/Gather, Sewing Project
- Session 4: Finish Sewing Project
Skill Level: This class is for the confident beginner who has participated in the Beginning Level Casing Project class.
Homework: Finishing any work not completed during class time.
What is NOT covered by Class Fee: $5.00 Kit Fee (sample materials & handouts) payable to Jayne at first class. Student must supply commercial pattern, fabric & notions for their chosen project (discussed session 1, due session 2). Click below for a supply list.

Cancellation & Refund Policy
Class, club, and event fees are nonrefundable. You must cancel 72 hours before the first session of the class, club, or event to receive store credit or apply the fee to another class, club or event. However, if the instructor or Montavilla Sewing Centers has to cancel a class, club, or event, you have the option for a store credit or full refund. Students must bring their own machines to all classes, unless otherwise noted. We request that you do not bring children or guests to the classes. Thank you!
