Color Theory: Value Studies

Led by Helene Knott

In this hands-on class, students will learn the value of Value. Value refers to the degree of light to dark each individual color occupies on the scale from white to black. While color does play a role in any composition, it is value that usually defines the design you see, and learning to control and exploit value will give you the tools to draw the viewer's eye where you want, work with striking optical illusion designs, and create luminosity in your quilts. A series of cut-and-paste exercises working with fabric swatches will teach you how to work with color and escalate your quilting to new heights. Students are encouraged to bring any projects they would like color advice on to the class for group discussion.
