Intro to Foundation Paper Piecing
In this beginning class, Connie will introduce you to the tools and skills needed to complete a paper pieced block.This is a class for confident beginners who want to learn paper piecing using foundation paper. We'll go over the basics and practice on a couple of simple blocks. A couple of patterns will be available, and we have fabric scraps to get you started, then you'll use your own fabrics of choice. Students should have basic sewing skills and be familiar with their machine's functions. Classroom machines are available for those who can't bring their own, but please call us in advance to reserve one.
Supply List
- ¼ yd or fat quarter of several different fabrics (You can also use scraps for the smaller pieces.)
- Foundation Paper
- Card stock cut to 6" x 8" or a heavy postcard
- 6" Add a Quarter ruler is recommended
- Fabric Glue stick or two-sided fabric tape
- Open-toe applique foot
- Size 90/14 Sharp or Microtex needle(s)
- Thread for piecing (neutral color to blend)
- Rotary cutter (28mm or 45mm)
- Cutting mat (12" x 18" is a good size)
- Rulers (Minimum 6" x 12" and 6.5" x 6.5")
- Basic sewing supplies (pins, scissors, needles, seam ripper, etc)
- Sewing machine in perfect working condition (or use one of our classroom machines). Please be familiar with your machine and be able to thread it, wind and change the bobbin, change the needle, change the stitch length, etc. If you plan to use a classroom machine, you can schedule a time to come to the store for a quick tutorial.

Cancellation & Refund Policy
Class, club, and event fees are nonrefundable. You must cancel 72 hours before the first session of the class, club, or event to receive store credit or apply the fee to another class, club or event. However, if the instructor or Montavilla Sewing Centers has to cancel a class, club, or event, you have the option for a store credit or full refund. Students must bring their own machines to all classes, unless otherwise noted. We request that you do not bring children or guests to the classes. Thank you!
