Stitcher's Suitcase

Protect and carry your precious Singer 221/222 Featherweight (or another small sewing machine) in this sturdy, padded bag. The wide zippered opening provides easy access to the machine and supplies. Multiple pockets keep accessories organized and within reach. Carry the bag by hand or over the shoulder using adjustable handles with a cushioned pad. Also great for a travel or retreat bag.
Prior experience making the “byAnnie” Feathered Friends companion pattern is helpful but is not necessary. Make this bag with your sewing machine, using only a straight stitch. To complete this bag in four, 3-hour sessions some homework will be involved.
- Day 1 (3 hours) – Jayne will explain how to prepare fabric/stabilizer for quilting, give suggestions on quilting and the cutting layout. During first class students will prepare & quilt at least one or more sets. Homework: Finish quilting all sets. After quilting follow the cutting layout for the quilted fabric, coordinating fabric & mesh. Seal all quilted pieces. Written directions with photos will be provided to help you complete this process.
- Day 2 (3 hours) – Sew Interior and Exterior Pockets, assemble bag Front & Back. Hwk – finish what was not completed in class.
- Day 3 (3 hours) – Assemble zipper panel & bottom and sew together. Hwk – finish what was not completed in class.
- Day 4 (3 hours) – Bind Shoulder Pad, attach bag Front & Back, Bind Seams
“byAnnie” projects incorporate sewing with foam stabilizer, machine quilting, sewing zippers, strapping, vinyl, preparing & attaching bias binding. The detailed instructions can be a little overwhelming, and Jayne will provide you with tips, tricks and short cuts. Let retired high school sewing instructor & Palmer Pletsch Certified Instructor, Jayne Vetter guide you in the construction & completion of these professional looking projects.
The Stitcher’s Suitcase Pattern is not included in the class fee but available for purchase at Montavilla Sewing Centers. The Ultimate Travel Bag pattern is similar and could be used in place of the Stitcher’s Suitcase if desired. Cancellation & Refund Policy
Class, club, and event fees are nonrefundable. You must cancel 72 hours before the first session of the class, club, or event to receive store credit or apply the fee to another class, club or event. However, if the instructor or Montavilla Sewing Centers has to cancel a class, club, or event, you have the option for a store credit or full refund. Students must bring their own machines to all classes, unless otherwise noted. We request that you do not bring children or guests to the classes. Thank you!
